๐๐๐น๐ฎ๐บ๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ฑ, ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ธ๐ถ๐๐๐ฎ๐ป โ The National Cyber Emergency Response Team (National CERT) of Pakistan had the privilege of hosting Mr. Fahd Batayneh, Stakeholder Engagement Director โ Middle East at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). Accompanied by Mr. Zakir Syed, Director of Internet Governance at the Ministry Of IT & Telecom (MoITT), the visit provided a platform for knowledge exchange and discussion on global best practices in domain name system (DNS) security and Internet governance.
Dr. Muhammad Yousaf, Director CERT, welcomed the delegation and introduced the structural and operational landscape of the National CERT. An engaging technical dialogue ensued, focusing on the mitigation of DNS-related cybersecurity incidents such as cache poisoning, domain hijacking, and DNS amplification attacks. The discussions also explored National CERTโs ongoing capacity building efforts and proactive incident response strategies that contribute to strengthening national cyber resilience.
ICANN plays a critical global role in ensuring a stable, secure, and unified Internet by coordinating unique identifiers such as domain names and IP addresses. The meeting concluded with a mutual interest in exploring potential collaboration between ICANN and National CERT in the areas of Internet governance, DNS security, and stakeholder engagement, aiming to foster a more secure and interoperable cyberspace for all.
